Pocket PC CAD Viewer File issues
Having just bought a new PDA, and downloaded a trial version of the viewer, I was able to view drawings on site. Great news. Unfortunately,
I have all our drawings in separate folders for each client stored on an SD card. When I try to open a client folder from the FILE option in the software, I only get the main PROJECT directory, and can't seem to go any deeper. Are there any special key presses to enable file navigation, if so is there a user manual that I can read. Or is it a feature that comes with the full version.
kindest regards, Mike

Hello Mike,
Pocket PC CAD Viewer works like a usual application for a compact device. There is no any special keys for enabling file navigation and this is not a feature that comes with the full version.

Re: Pocket PC CAD Viewer File issues
Many thanks for the reply. Unfortunately it doesn't help me, as I still cannot access my files. Could you please look into it and tell me how to brows through files, going deeper into folders, to open the files I need. When I use FILE >OPEN I only get the root folders, nothing deeper. If I can't access the files I won't end up buying the software.
many thanks in advance, mike

Re: Pocket PC CAD Viewer File issues
Well, we tested Pocket PC CAD Viewer with PDA. When opening it works exactly like all the other applications built on Compact FrameWork 2.0. It gives access to all folders a SD card. Would you please test it again.

Re: Pocket PC CAD Viewer File issues
Thank you for your feedback. I have tried a number of different ways, but still no success. I even downloaded a new file explorer with an OPEN WITH option. When selecting the file I want to open, I select the CAD Viewer as the desired app. but it launches without loading the file. FYI we are testing with our HP IPAQ 214 pocket p.c. running with Windows Mobile 6.
Is there anything else you can suggest ?
best, mike

Hello Mike,
We tested Pocket PC CAD Viewer under Windows Mobile 6. We found that it does not work with files like Explorer for example. It could not give access to an object Storage Card, but it could open folders on it. So the problems are:

- Working with files requires overpatching.

Re: Pocket PC CAD Viewer File issues
Have HP hx4705 with WM-6-4 .. with SD and CF cards (4GB and 16GB). The PPC CAD Viewer is an intriguing application meant for 3D files but with some serious shortcomings.
(1) When I try to load a file, my Folder selection is CF card root folders, and Main root folders. This is NOT satisfactory. A have been culling other apps that lack file navigation feature.
(2) I am running Autodesk Inventor 2009 (including AutoCAD 2009) on my desktop .. Inventor writes to '.iam' file native format, and can write to several other file formats, BUT NOT to DWG or DXF ... but no 3D vector formats are recognized by PPC-CV.
PPC-CV accepts DXF, DWG CAD files.
So, is there any work-around for such situations?
