ABViewer was just installed today. I opened a .tif file in editor to edit the file.... cut, copy, paste, text, etc. Those tools in the tool bar are greyed out. Nothing I do or any mode I switch to will allow me to select anything in the file. HELP!!! I can print... just not edit.

Hello!

It is necessary to select <b>Tools > Mode > Editor</b> menu item first.

Please answer the questions:
<ul>
<li>What ABViewer version do you use? (<b>Help > About</b> menu item)</li>
<li>How does it is registered? (Standard or Professional - read it in the title bar)</li>
<li>Does <b>Instruments</b> panel is greyed when opening all files (including CAD files) or just TIFF files?</li></ul>

I have version 6.1.0.44 Professional
I can select in .dxf and .dwg but not in .tif. Once geometry is selected the tools are available. All I can do in .tif is look at it and print it.

Have you tried other raster files? Does this problem occur with them too?

One final question: after selecting <b>Tools > Mode > Editor</b> menu item
<ul><li>you are able to draw entities (items in the <b>Draw</b> menu)when CAD file is loaded</li>
<li>and you are not able to draw entities when raster (jpg, bmp and tiff) is loaded</li></ul>
Is it correct?

Sergey.

I opened the .tif file and added text and a line. I am able to select them and the tools do activate. I can not select anything that is in the file already. I need to remove features from the file and replace them or copy them. I am not able to work with existing geometry, text, lines etc.

OK, I've got it.
Yes, you are right. ABViewer does not allow to represent raster image as a set of entities, and thus it is impossible to edit raster file like a CAD file. We must say that this is a problem of a vectoring of raster images.

So you are saying that this software, we just purchased, does not edit .tif files as Kodak editor or Black Ice. Our legacy files are in tif format and we are looking for a software that allows light editing of these files. Can I import the .tif file into another format and edit it with this software, then plot it out and scan it back into a .tif format?

This software does not allow converting Raster Images to Vector images. That is why it allows just adding new entities (texts, lines, arrows, polylines, rectangles, ellipses etc.) to an existing Raster image. It does not allow editing Raster image itself. That is why converting from one format to another gives nothing. Raster image would stay Raster as it ever was.
